About Riverside (Mildura) Golf Club Inc

Riverside Golf Club is an 18-hole public-access golf course at Nichols Point in the Mildura district of Victoria. Its current men's card measures 5,831 metres, plays to par 72 and carries an AMCR of 70. The women's card measures 5,142 metres and plays to par 73 with an AWCR of 72.

Riverside was formed by a breakaway group of Mildura Golf Club members who sought a site better suited to golf on the Sandilong Park floodplain. Construction was undertaken with Shire of Mildura support and sustenance labour, and the new links were officially opened on April 27, 1935. Today the course has grass greens, watered fairways and corridors of river red gum and box trees near the Murray River.

Origins

In 1934 a group of Mildura Golf Club members sought a site they believed was better suited to golf and selected the Sandilong Park floodplain. When the larger Mildura membership declined to relocate, the group broke away and pursued the new project with the Shire of Mildura.

Development

Construction took about six months. The course officially opened on April 27, 1935, with golf professional Fred Thompson invited to assess and promote the new links. The Shire then placed control of the facility in the hands of a citizens' committee that became Riverside Golf Club.

Today

Riverside operates an 18-hole course with grass greens and watered fairways beside Murray River floodplain vegetation, welcoming both members and visiting golfers.
