About Sandy Lane Golf Club - Old Nine Golf Course

The Old Nine is Sandy Lane's historic nine-hole course in Saint James, Barbados. The resort dates the course to 1961 and lists it at 3,345 yards with a par of 36. Its character differs from Sandy Lane's two later Tom Fazio championship courses: the Old Nine runs through the established Sandy Lane estate with tree-lined fairways, relatively small greens and tighter playing corridors.

The third is the longest par five on the nine, while the seventh is a short par three played from an elevated tee. The course represents the surviving portion of Sandy Lane's original golf operation; historical accounts indicate that the original course was later expanded to 18 holes before resort redevelopment reshaped the golf property. During the major redevelopment around the turn of the century, part of the former course area was incorporated into the new golf complex and the surviving nine became known as the Old Nine.

The course is a 9-hole resort golf course. It plays to par 36, 3,059m (3,345 yards). Designed by Robertson Ward, the course originally opened in 1961. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include club rental, golf carts, pull carts, caddies, Suite, Restaurant, Café, Terrace, and 1 more.

Origins

Golf became part of Sandy Lane early in the resort's history. The property records the original course opening for play in 1961, initially with nine holes. Historical accounts say the course was subsequently expanded to 18 holes.

Did You Know?
The Old Nine predates Sandy Lane's two Tom Fazio championship courses by about four decades.

Development

Sandy Lane underwent extensive redevelopment around the turn of the century, including the creation of the Country Club and Green Monkey courses. The earlier layout was substantially altered during that process, leaving the historic nine-hole component that is now marketed as the Old Nine.

Today

The Old Nine remains a separate nine-hole, par-36 course within Sandy Lane's three-course golf operation. It measures 3,345 yards and remains available for booked play alongside the resort's newer Country Club and Green Monkey layouts.
