Sheshan Golf Club is a private 18-hole, par-72 course in Songjiang, Shanghai, designed by Robin Nelson and Neil Haworth of Nelson & Haworth and opened in 2004. The architects' project record gives the original course at 7,140 yards and says more than 1.5 million cubic metres of earth were moved to create individual valleys and elevated green settings influenced by Donald Ross's Oak Hill. More than 10,000 trees were incorporated into the landscape, while the short par-4 16th and par-3 17th interact with a deep rock quarry.
Sheshan became the long-term Shanghai home of the HSBC Champions, later the WGC-HSBC Champions, hosting the tournament from 2005-2011 and again from 2013-2019. A published Golfify scorecard lists four everyday tee sets: Black 7,214 yards, Blue 6,787, White 6,173 and Red 5,436, all par 72. Tournament setups have played longer, including the existing 7,261-yard database figure.
The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. It plays to par 72, 7,261 yards. Designed by Robin Nelson and Neil Haworth, the course originally opened in 2004. It is a private members' club. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Putting Green, Chipping Area, Pro Shop, Golf Lessons, Caddie Service, Club Rental, Golf Cart Rental, and 1 more.
Nelson & Haworth designed Sheshan as a private residential-community golf course in Songjiang. The course opened in 2004 near Sheshan National Forest Park.
The architects cite Donald Ross's Oak Hill as an influence, particularly the use of downhill tee shots and approaches to elevated greens. Large-scale earthmoving created individual valleys, while more than 10,000 trees, canals, ponds and an existing deep quarry became integral landscape elements.
Within a year of opening, Sheshan became the home of the inaugural HSBC Champions. The tournament developed into a World Golf Championships event and, apart from a move to Mission Hills in 2012, remained at Sheshan through 2019.
International tournament coverage established Sheshan as one of China's best-known golf venues. Golf Digest has featured it among China's leading courses.
Sheshan remains a private Shanghai golf club and retains strong historical association with the HSBC Champions and international professional golf.
