About The Dorset Golf & Country Club & Resort

The Dorset Golf & Country Club & Resort near Wareham operates 27 holes arranged as three distinct nine-hole loops: Lakeland, Parkland and Woodland. All three were designed by Martin Hawtree. Lakeland and Parkland are the longer loops and combine as a par-72 18-hole course; either can instead be paired with the shorter Woodland nine to form a par-69 course.

Because these are separate loops with different pars and scorecards, a single par or length should not be assigned to the entire 27-hole facility. The official resort describes clover-shaped bunkering, large undulating greens and substantial water on the Lakeland/Parkland combination. Practice facilities include a covered floodlit driving range, putting green, practice bunker, chipping and short-game areas.

The course is a 27-hole resort golf course. The course was designed by Martin Hawtree. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Putting Green, Practice Bunker, Chipping Area, Short Game Area, Pro Shop, Golf Lessons, Golf Simulator, and 3 more.

Origins

The Dorset was developed as a 27-hole golf facility rather than a single 18-hole course. Martin Hawtree designed the Lakeland, Parkland and Woodland nines as three distinct loops.

Did You Know?
The three nines can be combined into either a par-72 Lakeland/Parkland course or par-69 combinations using Woodland.

Design Philosophy

Hawtree's design uses large contoured greens and his characteristic shaped bunkering. Lakeland and Parkland provide the longer test, with water prominent across much of the Lakeland routing, while Woodland moves through tighter tree-lined ground.

Today

The three loops remain the basis of the resort's golf operation, supported by practice facilities, accommodation, dining, golf packages and society events.
