Origins

The club's story began on 18 October 1904, when the Traralgon Young People's Society resolved to form a golf and tennis club for daytime recreation. James Campbell provided part of Traralgon Park for the original golf ground. Play there continued until 1907, and the club's history records that the greens, like many courses of the era, had to be fenced against cattle.

Golf was initially largely a winter activity.

Early greens were fenced to keep cattle away.

Development

Traralgon moved through several sites. By 1921 golf was being played around the railway reservoir, with leased and adjoining private land eventually allowing an 18-hole arrangement. Variable course conditions led to a substantial redesign during the 1930s.

In 1939 the club decided to secure its own land, buying property from Traralgon South farmer Jim Holden. Vern Morcom was then commissioned to design the course. The club's current masterplan notes that its greens have differing construction histories, with some dating back many decades and none built to modern USGA-style specifications.

Today

The current course is an 18-hole layout with public visitor access. A modern masterplan proposes future changes, including reducing the course from par 72 and approximately 5,802 metres to par 71 and 5,399 metres, but those figures describe the proposed configuration rather than the presently rated course.
