Vista Vallarta's Nicklaus Course is an 18-hole, par-72 Jack Nicklaus design in the foothills above Puerto Vallarta. The course opened in 2001 and plays approximately 7,074 yards from its longest standard configuration. It occupies the higher ground at the 36-hole Vista Vallarta complex, where it is paired with a separate Tom Weiskopf course.
The routing uses the site's rolling terrain, natural creeks, arroyos and wooded areas, with views toward Puerto Vallarta and Banderas Bay. The Nicklaus course has also had a significant tournament role: it was used for the 2002 WGC-World Cup and previously hosted the 2001 NCAA Intercollegiate Ford Championship; a Champions Tour event followed in 2006. Because Vista Vallarta contains two independently designed 18-hole courses, statistics and architectural credits for the Weiskopf course should not be merged with this entry.
The course is an 18-hole golf course. It plays to par 72, 6,468m (7,074 yards). Designed by Jack Nicklaus, the course originally opened in 2001. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving range, Putting green, Pro shop, Club rental, Golf carts.
Vista Vallarta was developed as a two-course golf complex above Puerto Vallarta, with contrasting layouts commissioned from Jack Nicklaus and Tom Weiskopf. The Nicklaus course was the first of the pair and opened in April 2001.
Nicklaus routed the course across the property's higher elevations, incorporating grassy hillsides, stands of palm and ficus, creeks and arroyos. Elevated terrain provides long views toward Puerto Vallarta, its marina and Banderas Bay.
The course quickly moved into tournament golf after opening, hosting collegiate competition in 2001 and serving as the venue for the 2002 WGC-World Cup. It later hosted a Champions Tour event in 2006.
The course's international profile was established early through the World Cup, which brought national teams to Vista Vallarta in December 2002.
The Nicklaus Course remains one half of Vista Vallarta's 36-hole complex. Its identity and statistics are separate from the Tom Weiskopf-designed course on the same property.
