About Jumeirah Golf Estates - Fire Course

The Fire Course is one of two Greg Norman-designed championship layouts at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai. The 18-hole course plays to par 72 and is published at 7,480 yards from its longest configuration. Norman designed Fire around the property's desert character, using rolling terrain, native grasses, terracotta-coloured bunkering and changes in tee elevation and direction.

The course is deliberately different in presentation from its neighbouring Earth Course: rather than Earth's stronger colour contrasts, Fire uses golden native grasses and earth-toned hazards. Jumeirah Golf Estates opened in 2009 as a large residential golf development, with Fire and Earth forming its two championship courses. Current Emirates Golf Federation ratings list several rated Fire configurations, including Tournament, Composite, Signature and Forward tees.

Origins

Fire was developed as one of the two principal championship courses at Jumeirah Golf Estates, a large Dubai residential and golf project that opened in 2009. Both Fire and its neighbouring Earth Course were designed by Greg Norman, but they were given deliberately different visual and strategic identities.

Design Philosophy

Norman's Fire design responds to the natural desert landscape rather than attempting to imitate a heavily wooded or traditional parkland course. Golden native grasses, rolling ground and large terracotta bunkers frame the playing corridors. Tee locations change in elevation, length and angle, while bunkers influence preferred lines from the tee.

Green complexes also reward approaches from favourable positions rather than simply encouraging players to aim directly at every flag.

Development

Fire has remained one of the two championship courses forming the core of Jumeirah Golf Estates. The broader estate has developed extensive practice, teaching, dining and leisure infrastructure around the golf operation.

Today

Fire remains an 18-hole par-72 course and is published by Dubai Golf at 7,480 yards. Current Emirates Golf Federation course-rating records provide rated Tournament, Composite, Signature and Forward configurations.
