About Mission Hills Haikou - Blackstone Course

Blackstone is an 18-hole, par-73 course at Mission Hills Haikou, with an official maximum length of 7,808 yards. Brian Curley of Schmidt-Curley Design created the layout on approximately 350 acres of volcanic terrain. The course moves through mature trees, jungle vegetation, lakes and wetlands, while exposed black lava is deliberately integrated into the edges of fairways, bunkers and forced carries.

Mission Hills states that there is no conventional rough: maintained turf is cut as fairway, producing irregular boundaries where grass meets lava rock. The resort lists 147 bunkers and an average green size of 5,694 square feet. Blackstone has served as a tournament venue, including the World Ladies Championship and Mission Hills' World Celebrity Pro-Am.

The course is an 18-hole resort golf course. It plays to par 73, 7,808 yards. Designed by Schmidt & Curley and Brian Curley, the course originally opened in 2011. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Clubhouse, Restaurants, Pro shop.

Origins

Blackstone was developed as the championship centrepiece of the Mission Hills Haikou complex. Brian Curley routed the course across a large volcanic site containing mature trees, jungle, lakes and wetlands.

Design Philosophy

Curley treated exposed lava as a core architectural material. Turf edges were made deliberately irregular where they meet black rock, bunkers were given similarly irregular forms, and the course was built without conventional rough. Existing lychee trees and historic stone remnants were retained where possible.

Development

The course debuted in 2011 as part of Mission Hills' large Haikou development and became the primary tournament layout within the ten-course complex.

Today

Blackstone remains an 18-hole, par-73 course measuring 7,808 yards in its longest official configuration.
