Golf Course Architect
Schmidt‑Curley Design is the modern golf‑course architectural firm founded by American architects Lee Schmidt and Brian Curley. The firm emerged in 1998, rooted in the pair’s earlier tenures at Landmark Golf Company and their mentorship under Pete Dye.
Schmidt, a Purdue University graduate, began his career under Pete Dye and later worked with Landmark and Nicklaus Design before co‑founding Schmidt‑Curley, while Curley studied architecture at Cal Poly, SLO, and worked on Landmark projects alongside Dye before forming the partnership. Since inception, Schmidt‑Curley Design has become a globally prolific firm, designing more than 150 courses across over 25 countries, with a major concentration in Asia; notable accolades include GOLF Magazine’s “Architect of the Year” (2011), repeated “Best Golf Course Architect – Asia‑Pacific” by Asian Golf Monthly, and recognition as one of the most influential golf‑course architects worldwide.
Among its work in Mexico, the firm designed Amanali Country Club & Náutica, located in Hidalgo, near Mexico City, which opened its front nine and practice facilities around 2010.
