Shadow Dunes is an 18-hole, par-70 course at Mission Hills Haikou measuring 6,428 yards. Designed by Brian Curley and Schmidt-Curley Design, it takes its architectural cues from Hainan's coastal sand landscapes rather than the exposed lava character of several neighbouring courses. Mission Hills describes towering sand dunes, native vegetation and broad undulating landforms that feed into some of the largest putting surfaces at the resort.
The course is materially shorter than Lava Fields and Sandbelt Trails and relies more on contour, sand and green scale than raw length. Shadow Dunes forms part of the southern group of Mission Hills Haikou courses and shares the resort's golf shops, academy, practice areas, accommodation and dining facilities. It is a separate layout from Double Pin, Stone Quarry, Preserve, Meadow Links and Lava Fields despite their close proximity.
The course is an 18-hole resort golf course. It plays to par 70, 5,878m (6,428 yards). The course was designed by Schmidt & Curley and Brian Curley. It is open to resort guests. On-site facilities include Clubhouse, Golf Shop, Practice Facilities, Golf Academy, Club Rental, Locker Rooms, Restaurants, Resort Accommodation.
Shadow Dunes was created as one of Schmidt-Curley's ten distinct courses at Mission Hills Haikou.
The design translates the sand-dune landscapes and native vegetation of Hainan's beaches into an inland resort course, using large-scale contouring and unusually expansive greens.
Shadow Dunes remains an 18-hole par-70 course measuring 6,428 yards.
