Bantry Bay Golf Club occupies about 170 acres of undulating ground at Donemark overlooking Bantry Bay in West Cork. The present club was founded in 1975 and began with a nine-hole course associated with Eddie Hackett. Christy O'Connor Jr.
later contributed to the development of the full 18-hole layout, which was completed in 1997. The club itself credits both Hackett and O'Connor with the course design. The longest documented scorecard used in this research is a par-71 layout of 6,144 yards, with shorter championship, men's and women's alternatives also published.
The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. It plays to par 71, 5,618m (6,144 yards). Designed by Eddie Hackett and Christy O'Connor Jr., the course originally opened in 1975. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Full Membership, Family Membership, Country Membership, Lodge, Driving range, Putting green, Club hire, Buggy hire, and 3 more.
Although records place golf in the Bantry area as far back as the 1890s, the present Bantry Bay Golf Club dates from 1975. Its permanent course was established on undulating ground at Donemark overlooking Bantry Bay. Eddie Hackett is associated with the original nine-hole design.
The routing uses the natural elevation and coastal exposure of the Donemark property. Despite its position beside Bantry Bay, it is fundamentally a parkland/clifftop course rather than a traditional sand-based links.
The club operated as a nine-hole course for more than two decades. A second nine was developed with design input from Christy O'Connor Jr., and the 18-hole layout was completed in 1997. The club now credits both O'Connor and Hackett for the course.
