Ring of Kerry Golf Club is an 18-hole course at Greenane, Templenoe, overlooking Kenmare Bay. The club was established in 1998 and the original design was one of Eddie Hackett's final projects. Current club material also credits Ron Kirby, formerly of Jack Nicklaus Design, with later work that included development of the putting surfaces.
The site combines heathland topography with mature tree-lined parkland sections and sand-based construction. Current specialist Irish golf material lists the course at par 73, while historical measurements vary as the layout has evolved, so older cards should not automatically be treated as current. Visitors are actively welcomed, with separate summer and winter rates for Golf Ireland members and international players.
The course is an 18-hole heathland golf course. Designed by Eddie Hackett, the course originally opened in 1998. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Practice area, Clubhouse, Restaurant, Golf cart hire, Pull trolley hire, Club hire.
The project grew from the vision of Templenoe native Donal O'Shea, whose family had owned the land. After O'Shea died before the project was completed, his partner Dominic Reid continued the development with the McNicholas interests. Eddie Hackett was appointed as architect and the club was established in 1998.
Hackett was asked to create a course capable of challenging accomplished players while remaining playable from shorter tees. The elevated site contains heathland terrain, peat and mature woodland, with sand-based construction used in developing the course.
Ron Kirby subsequently contributed design work, with the club specifically highlighting his influence on its putting surfaces. In 2022 the course was purchased by Dr Stanley Quek and Peng Loh, owners of nearby Sheen Falls Lodge. Synergy Golf assumed management and maintenance responsibilities in late 2023.
The course has attracted attention principally for Hackett's use of its elevated Kenmare Bay site and for being one of his last projects.
Ring of Kerry is privately owned and operated as a visitor-accessible golf course. The current club describes the layout as combining heathland and parkland characteristics and publishes separate domestic and international visitor tariffs.
