Education City Golf Club's Championship Course is an 18-hole, par-72 layout designed by José María Olazábal within Qatar Foundation's Education City development. The championship routing measures 7,306 yards from the back tees and forms the principal course in a 33-hole complex that also includes a six-hole Championship Course and a separate floodlit nine-hole par-3 course. The club opened in 2019 and represented Olazábal's first course-design project in the Middle East.
The 120-hectare site was relatively flat, with the design incorporating an existing wadi to introduce contour and changes in elevation. Platinum TE Paspalum is used across the golf property. Education City became an international tournament venue almost immediately: the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters moved there from Doha Golf Club for the first time in March 2020.
The course is an 18-hole desert golf course. It plays to par 72, 6,680m (7,306 yards). Designed by José María Olazábal, the course originally opened in 2019. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving range, TrackMan range, Centre of Excellence, Golf academy, Practice facilities, Golf cart rental, Villa, Full Membership, and 7 more.
Qatar Foundation developed Education City Golf Club as both a championship venue and a facility intended to broaden participation in golf. José María Olazábal designed 33 holes on the 120-hectare site, and the club began operating in 2019.
The project used an existing wadi to create elevation and character on otherwise relatively flat terrain. Olazábal's plan combined an international-standard 18-hole course with shorter six-hole and par-3 layouts so the same property could serve tournament players, established golfers and beginners.
The club's Centre of Excellence and practice infrastructure were integrated into the project rather than added as an afterthought. The golf courses use drought-tolerant Platinum TE Paspalum. Education City was formally opened in conjunction with the 2020 Qatar Masters.
Hosting the Qatar Masters in 2020 placed the new course on the European Tour schedule within roughly a year of beginning operations.
The Championship Course remains the main 18-hole layout at a three-course facility managed by AMLAK Hospitality/Holding. It accepts visitor tee-time bookings and publishes separate resident, promotional and rack rates.
