Golf Course Architect
Tom Weiskopf (1942–2022) first rose to prominence as a top American professional golfer—winning the 1973 Open Championship and earning 16 PGA Tour titles—before transitioning to a second career in golf course architecture. He began his design work in partnership with Jay Morrish in the mid‑1980s, creating acclaimed courses such as Troon North in Arizona and Loch Lomond in Scotland, among others.
In his later years, Weiskopf collaborated with Phil Smith, producing notable courses including TPC Craig Ranch and Black Desert Resort (his final design), and leading the 2016 renovation of Torrey Pines’ North Course—projects that reflect his signature style: elegant, scenic, and player-friendly, often featuring drivable par‑4s and thoughtful integration with natural terrain.
