The Dunes at Shenzhou Peninsula is a 36-hole coastal golf facility at Wanning on Hainan Island rather than a single 18-hole course. Tom Weiskopf and Phil Smith designed two distinct layouts across natural coastal duneland beside the South China Sea. The West Course opened first in 2010, followed by the East Course in 2012.
Golf Digest lists the East at 7,258 yards, while other current course references publish a 7,484-yard back-tee configuration; the West is commonly published at 7,456 yards. Both are par 72. The courses were created on land previously used as a watermelon plantation, with native sandy contours, large dunes, exposed wind and indigenous vegetation retained as defining parts of the design.
The course is a 36-hole links golf course. The course was designed by Tom Weiskopf and Phil Smith. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Golf academy, Pro shop, Caddies, Golf carts.
The golf development was created on a former watermelon plantation on Shenzhou Peninsula, where large natural sand dunes and proximity to the South China Sea provided the foundation for two courses.
Weiskopf and Smith used the native dunes and natural contours rather than imposing a conventional resort-course landscape. Wind, sandy ground and large-scale duneland define both courses, while indigenous vegetation was incorporated into the landscape.
The West Course opened in 2010. The East Course followed in 2012 as a separate 18-hole layout, bringing the facility to 36 holes.
Golf Digest ranks the East Course among China's leading golf courses and has highlighted the site's natural dunes, strategic contours and seaside setting.
The Dunes operates as a two-course public golf destination. East and West remain separate par-72 layouts and should be treated independently for scorecard and tee data.
