Trump International Golf Links Ireland at Doonbeg is an 18-hole Atlantic links in County Clare. Greg Norman designed the original course, which opened on 9 July 2002 with an exhibition match between Norman and Pádraig Harrington. The property was acquired by the Trump Organization in 2014 and Martin Hawtree subsequently redesigned significant parts of the course.
The current back-tee layout is par 72 and 7,026 yards, arranged as nine holes out and nine back through dunes beside Doughmore Bay. Its unusual par distribution includes five par threes and five par fives. The resort provides a driving range, practice facilities, golf shop, caddie services, club hire, restaurants and accommodation.
The course is an 18-hole links golf course. It plays to par 72, 6,424m (7,026 yards). Designed by Greg Norman, the course originally opened in 2002. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Villa, Suite, Family Membership, Corporate Membership, Driving range, Golf shop, Putting green, Practice facilities, and 8 more.
The idea of golf at Doonbeg predates the modern resort by more than a century. In 1892 officers of the Scottish Black Watch considered the coastal land for a course before choosing nearby Lahinch. The project re-emerged in the early 1990s through the Doonbeg Community Development Company.
, established by partners of Kiawah Development Partners, acquired those options and completed the land purchase in December 1999. Construction began that month.
Greg Norman routed the original course through the dunes under a 'least disturbance' philosophy, seeking to use the natural ground rather than impose a heavily manufactured layout. The resulting routing has five par threes and five par fives and follows a nine-out, nine-back pattern along Doughmore Bay.
The course opened on 9 July 2002, marked by an exhibition in which Norman defeated Pádraig Harrington. The Trump Organization purchased the property in February 2014. Martin Hawtree subsequently undertook extensive alterations, including changes associated with coastal erosion and redesigned holes such as the first, fifth, fourteenth and eighteenth.
Doonbeg quickly gained international attention after its 2002 opening and later appeared in national and international course rankings. Its selection to host the 2026 Amgen Irish Open brought the DP World Tour's national championship to the course for the first time.
The present course is an 18-hole, par-72 links measuring 7,026 yards from the back tees, with Atlantic views from 16 holes according to the resort. It operates as part of Trump International Golf Links & Hotel Ireland.
